Dosage and Route
Adult:(150-pound patient with normal renal and hepatic function)
- PO 250-500 mg q6h
- IM 250 mg/kg/day in divided doses
- IV 250-500 mg q8-12h
Child (under 8):
- PO 25-50 mg/kg/day in divided doses
- IM 15-25 mg/kg/day in divided doses
- IV 10-20 mg/kg/day in divided soses

Adverse Reactions & Side Effects
Tooth discoloration in children, lichenoid drug reaction,
candidiasis, erythema multiforme
Contraindications
- history of hypersensitivity and allergy to tetracyclines
- children under 8 years
- pregnancy category D
- lactation
- caution when taking birth control pills.
