Powder for suspension: 200, 400mg
Tablets, chewables: 200 mg
Powder for injection: 500mg and 1g

Dosage and Route

Adult:

PO 400-800 mg q6h

Child (under 8):

PO 30-50 mg/kg/day in divided doses

Clinical Indications

treatment of periodontal abscess when allergic to penicillin
adjunct therapy for chronic adult periodontitis when allergic to penicillin
prophylaxis for bacterial endocartitis

Adverse Reactions & Side Effects

nausea, vomitting, abdominal pain, candidiasis, tinnitus

Contraindications

history of hypersensitivity and allergy to erythromycins (rare)
pregnancy category B
lactation
caution when taking birth control pills.
