Effect of pretreatment with ketorolac tromethamine on postoperative pain following periodontal surgery

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a preoperative administration of ketorolac tromethamine, 20 mg compared with a placebo, on postoperative pain following periodontal surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a preoperative administration of ketorolac tromethamine, 20 mg compared with a placebo, on postoperative pain following periodontal surgery. This was a randomized, single-dose, double-blind clinical trial. One group received 20 mg ketorolac immediately before periodontal flap surgery, and the other group received a placebo. The visual analog scale was used to estimate pain. Results indicated that preoperative treatment with ketorolac significantly reduced initial pain intensity and delayed the onset of postoperative pain as compared to placebo. No adverse reactions related to preoperative medication were observed. [S.L.]
