Patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis in the maxillary posterior segment of the dentition and localized areas of gingival recession can be treated simultaneously by using connective tissue grafting procedure. The connective tissue autografts can be obtained from the palate by utilizing a partial thickness palatal approach. Ideally the palatal must have adequate tissue thickness. The flat-shallow palate can present problems. The recipient site is prepared like the free gingival graft. Three cases reported.

Connective tissue grafts take slightly longer to epithelialize when compared with epithelium-containing grafts. Their main benefit is the addition of keratinized tissue.
