Rateitschk, K, Egli, U, Frigeli, G. Recession: A four year longitudinal study after free gingival grafts. J. Clin. Perio. 6:158, 1979

This is a follow up of a previous study by Egli, 1975, Free gingival graft were performed on recession areas around 42 teeth in 12 patients, with post-op evaluation of recurrent recession after 1, 6, 12, 24, 48 months.

The 4 year follow-up demonstrated that no significant changes occurred in the degree of post-op recession. There was no control group. This study demonstrated that wound overextension almost always relapses to the apical margin of the transplant. Not much change from the prior 2 year study.

This study gave no indication of a reduction in the degree of recession in the form of a creeping attachment.
