Skoglund LA Jorkjend L. Postoperative pain experience after gingivectomies
using different combinations of local anesthetic agents and periodontal dressings.
J Clin Perio, 18:204, 1991.
Purpose
Evaluation of postoperative pain
Materials and Methods
- 243 gingivectomies,
- 3 different anesthetics (lidocaine-adrenaline, prilocaine-felypressin or mepivacaine)
- 3 perio dressings : Coe-pak, Wondrpak, Nobotec.
Results
- Coe-Pak showed a higher pain score in the group treated with lidocaine -adrenaline 4-6 hour after GV than the groups treated with the other 2 anesthetics
- No differences between the 2 other groups ( prilocaine and mepivacaine)
- When Wondrpak or Nobotec were used, no differences could be detected between the 3 groups.
- Authors conclude that adrenaline-lidocaine gives a higher degree of pain after GV. However, the effect is masked when a eugenol containing perio dressing is used.
