Purpose
Comparison of dressing with and without incorporation of CHX
Materials and Methods
- Split mouth double blind design
- 11 Patients
- Gingivectomy at least in 2 contralateral quads for each patient
- Coe-Pak was used
- 1 week in place Both pack were placed in randomized sequence
- Interview of pts for subjective symptoms
- Evaluation of pack at removal
- Degree of healing: tendency to bleeding
- Antibacterial activity was assessed by recording presence or absence of zone of inhibition on Petri dishes.
Results
- Test side showed a faster healing
- Subjective symptoms were better on test side
- The Coe-Pak with CHX showed a longer antibacterial activity. More than 24 hr.
- After 7 days none of the dressings showed antibacterial activity
- Only the dressing with CHX showed antibacterial activity after 4 days in the mouth.
