Binnie WH and Forrest JO. A study of tissue response to cyanoacrylate
adhesive in periodontal surgery. J Perio, 45:619,1974
Purpose
Comparison of histological changes associated with the use of butyl cyanoacrylates and silk sutures in contiguous areas.
Materials and Methods
- 2 dogs
- FTFlaps
- Sacrifice: 1 dog after 1 week and 2 dog after 3 weeks after surgery
Results
- Clinical: 1 week , cyanoacrykate flaps looked better than sutured.
- Erythema, swelling and plaque accumulation were found in the sutured flaps
- Differences were less at 3 weeks
- Histological: There was less tissue disturbance with cyanoacrylate at 1 week but at 3 weeks the histological picture was similar.
- One week old sutured flaps showed more tissue response. The crestal area was densely inflamed and edematous. The area between this and the bony crest was mild inflamed with granulation tissue and little fiber maturation. At 3 weeks , healing was similar.
