ANTIMICROBIALS: RINSES

Purpose:

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the plaque removal effect of the formulation of Plax compared to a control solution.

Materials and methods:

A total of 19 dental students were included in this double blind study. The study was characterized by 2 experimental periods for each subject. Plaque was allowed to accumulate for 3 weeks after a session of scaling and root planing (S/RP) and polishing. At the beginning of each period plaque disclosure was determined by means of disclosing solution. After plaque disclosing photos were taken. At the end of each period color slides were taken again and the 2 groups compared.

Results:

Analysis of the data showed no beneficial effect regarding plaque removal when Plax was used versus the use of s control solution.
