Solheim, T. Dental Cementum Apposition as an Indicator of Age. Scand J Dent Res,
98:510-9, 1990
Aims
- Study age and thickness and use regression analysis to find formulas for age prediction.
- examine various ways in which cementum is measured
- Study widths of the cementum zone and the sex, reason for extraction, periodontal destruction, translucent zone and root dentin color.
Methods
1000 teeth with contralateral teeth to be extracted stained with carbol fuchsin and examined with a stereomicroscope.
Findings
- Pathology plays a insignificant role in cemental changes in thickness, thus age can be determined by the cementum.
- Half tooth sections worked ok ³satisfactory² when combined with fuchsin for measuring thickness of cementum.
