This 55-year-old woman presented marked erythema of both maxillary and mandibular gingival mucosa. Several bleeding points can be seen. Note again the typical clinical findings in MMP, that is ulceration, fibrinous exudate and epithelial slough. Also note that the majority of the interdental papillae are free of inflammatory response, this will help to establish the differential diagnosis between MMP and other gingival inflammatory disorders.
The oral lesions can occur in any area. The arrow points to an early vesicle in the left palate of a 62-year-old woman with MMP. Note the large epithelial slough on the right palate and the generalized erythema. Patients complain of moderate to severe pain and inability to eat properly due to the ulcers.
