Dr. Richard G. Stevenson is Associate Clinical Professor and Chairman for the Division of Restorative Dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He has been teaching at UCLA since 1992 as a Lecturer in the Section of Operative Dentistry, where he received the Faculty of the Year Award in 1994 and 1998. He is a member of the R.V. Tucker Cast Gold Study Club in Orange County, and in 1999, he received a fellowship in medical education at the UCLA School of Medicine. In 2001, he received a Certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. Dr. Stevenson is active in committee work within the School, serving on the Admissions Committee, Patient Care Committee, Quality Assurance Committee and Faculty Group Dental Practice Committee. He is a member of many professional associations including: Academy of Operative Dentistry where he has served as an executive councilor, the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, IADR, and AADS. He holds a commission as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve Dental Corps.

1986 – Present Joint research with Drs. P. E. Lestrel and D. Swindler, University of Washington. Longitudinal shape changes in the cranial base of M. Nemestrina: Elliptical Fourier functions.
1994 – Present Joint research with Drs. R. J. Hoard and A. A. Caputo, UCLA School of Dentistry, Los Angeles, California. A Comparison of Retention and Resistance of 7/8 cast gold crown preparations based on two different auxiliary retentive features.

- Created, designed and developed measurement instruments for calibration and the development of competency achievement
- Created and designed competency examination forms for the Amalgam, Composite and Fixed exams (these forms are also used by the University of Southern California)
- Created and designed Mockboard examination forms for the Simulated Fixed Prosth Exams
- Developed a hands-on presentation for State Board Preparation on Typodont Equilibration for 4th year students
- Calibration sessions conducted with faculty for the consistency of grading competencies
- Developed curriculum for the Restorative Division for the PPID Program for foreign dentists
- Created and designed bur kits for ideal preparations along with a teaching guide for students and residents
