Dr. Rowland is a seventh generation Californian with both Anglo and Hispanic roots, and has an avid interest in California history.  Years of research culminated in the historical biography, John Rowland and William Workman, Southern California Pioneers of 1841, co-published in 1999 by the Arthur H. Clark Company and the Historical Society of Southern California.  Dr. Rowland is currently working on another manuscript, detailing the adventures of two other ancestors, a Catalan Bluecoat and a New Spain soldado de cuera, both of whom were present at the founding of San Francisco in 1776.
