While at San Diego State University, Dr. Freymiller received the Outstanding Graduate Award in Mathematics and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. At the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, he received the John E. Thayer Scholarship Award, the Roy Greep Award for Excellence in the Basic Sciences, and the Silver Award for Scholastic Excellence. He graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. After graduation, he entered the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital , where he earned the MD degree from Harvard Medical School and completed one and a half years of general surgery residency in addition to completing the oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program. Dr. Freymiller came to UCLA as a full-time faculty member in the Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1989. He was appointed Director of the Postdoctoral Residency Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1991. In 1995,he assumed the additional role of Chairman of the Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for the UCLA School of Dentistry, and Chief of the Dental Service for the UCLA Medical Center . Dr. Freymiller is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Research/Creative Activities
Dr. Freymiller’s interest lies in the area of wound healing, specifically with respect to improving the success of bone grafting procedures. He has 25 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has received grant support for his research from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, the American Fund for Dental Health, and the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation.

Patient Care Activities
Dr. Freymiller is very active in patient care. In addition to supervising resident and student patient care, he treats private patients through the intramural oral and maxillofacial surgery practice at UCLA.
