Dr. Duperon graduated with a D.D.S. degree from the University of Alberta 1961. After graduating from the Faculty of Dentistry at theUniversity of Alberta , Dr. Duperon practiced for six years as a general practitioner in Regina Saskatchewan , Canada . In 1967 he left practice and entered a Pediatric Dentistry program at the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg , Manitoba . He also was awarded a M.Sc. degree from the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba . While in Winnipeg , Dr. Duperon became the chair of Pediatric Dentistry program at the School of Dentistry in Winnipeg . During his chair ship, he designed and implemented a new children’s dental facility at the Children’s hospital that is still in use today. In 1974 he came to UCLA to serve as the program director for the pediatric dentistry post-doctoral program. Dr. Duperon served for 17 years as chair of the Student Performance Committee, and for many years as the chair of the Dental School Compensation Plan Committee. Dr. Duperon assumed the chair of Pediatric Dentistry in 1991 and continued in that position until 2004. He served as President of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry in 1998-99, and continues to serve on the Scientific Affairs Committee of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Research/Creative Activities

Dr. Duperon is interested in pulp therapy and the effect of residual bacteria on the success of pulpal therapies. This includes the use of chemical agents to eliminate residual bacteria from dental cavity preparations. He also is conducting research into non-radiographic determination of deciduous root canal length. Dr. Duperon is researching the effect of EMLA and other topical anesthetics on the oral mucosa.

 

Patient Care Activities

Dr. Duperon sees pediatric patients in the Faculty Group Dental Practice. He also supervises resident treatment at the UCLA Children’s Dental Center.
