| The Pediatric Dentistry Section is committed to educate pre-doctoral students to become competent dentists who are able to provide routine preventive, diagnostic, and clinical treatment for children presenting with uncomplicated treatment needs. The Section is also committed to educate dentists to become pediatric dentists who can provide the highest standards of care and professionalism to those patients who are beyond the expertise of the general dentist and who are knowledgeable about the science of practice administration.

Teaching Programs
The mission of the faculty and staff of the Section of Pediatric Dentistry is to improve the health of the people of California by educating residents, students, and practitioners about the physical and mental growth of children and the art and science of Pediatric Dentistry. This mission is accomplished/fulfilled by researching the causes, prevention, and treatment of dental diseases and cranio-facial abnormalities in the infant, child, and adolescent patient and by providing service to our patients and to the community at large.
The pre-doctoral program teaches the basic behavioral and mechanical skills needed to treat normal children in dental practice.
The postdoctoral program educates graduate dentists to become specialists in Pediatric Dentistry capable of treating all children using various modalities of preventive, conservative, and surgical methods. For more information about the program, please refer to the residency program webpage.
The preceptorship program provides up to one year of seminars, lectures, and clinical observation in Pediatric Dentistry for graduates of foreign dental programs. For more information about the preceptorship program, please refer to the preceptorship pages of the website.
