The Section's academic faculty consists of two board certified specialists in oral and maxillofacial pathology - Dr. Russell E. Christensen and Dr. J. Philip Sapp. They are responsible for the academic and service components associated with the identification, understanding and management of oral and maxillofacial diseases. The Section investigates and teaches the causes, processes and effects of these diseases; applies and integrates the basic sciences into clinical dentistry; provides microscopic interpretation and reporting on tissues submitted for diagnosis; consults and advises on the management of diseases; and interacts with other health care providers at UCLA and throughout the state and country to enhance patient care.
