Although the UCLA School of Dentistry does not have a formal elective or exchange
program, we do welcome individual to be student observers in our classrooms
and clinics.
If you should decide to become an observer at UCLA School of Dentistry you
must complete the application form and
submit a letter from the Dean of your dental school confirming that you are
a student in good standing and your current year of study. In order for your
request to be approved it is also necessary to inform us of the date of your
expected arrival at UCLA and your departure date. Upon your arrival you will
be introduced by email to the faculty, staff and students. Lastly, you are
not permitted to engage in patient treatment or work in the student laboratories
during your stay.
We cannot offer formal credit for your stay and you would
not be enrolled as any type of student. You would also "be
on your own" to find accommodations. However, there is information
about local hotels and a hostel in Santa Monica not far from
the UCLA campus, the beach and the bus lines which go directly
to and from UCLA. You are also welcome to log on to the University
Community Housing Office website at: www.cho.ucla.edu to
look for temporary housing.
Again, we must remind you that you cannot engage in patient
care or be formally enrolled with any official status. Should
you decide to become an observer please be sure to forward
directly to the Office of Student Affairs the Dean's letter,
the names of all observers attending and the beginning and
ending dates of your visit.
