Residency/Post-Doctorate Programs

UCLA offers residency/post-doctoral certificate programs in a number of dental specialties. These programs are designed to prepare the dental school graduate to (1) become a dental specialist or refine his/her general practice skills, (2) become a qualified faculty member; and/or (3) become a research investigator. offer the dentist an opportunity to become a dental specialist, qualified teacher, and/or research investigator.

Tuition/Stipend for Residents

Residents receive a stipend of approximately $38,100 per year that is paid on a monthly basis. In addition, residents receive may select from a range of medical and dental benefits. Meal cards are also provided to those residents who qualify. Although, no tuition is required, it is important to note that the residents of all programs except Advanced Prosthodontics, General Practice Residency and Maxillofacial Prosthetics will be required to purchase a certain laptop meeting specific criteria. This information will be included in the acceptance package.

Prerequisites for Programs and Submission Requirements

Although the prerequisites and submission requirements differ for each of the programs, there are some similarities including the following:

1. Completed application – Please note that the actual application varies by program.
2. Official transcripts from undergraduate institution, dental school and any graduate programs
3. Curriculum Vitae
4. Official National Board Scores
5. Photo – 2 x 2

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program has its own application form. Please download and complete this Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specific application form which has been saved in Rich Text Format (RTF).

Submission and Review of Applications

The residency programs do not have their applicants submit their applications and supporting materials to the same office. Please be sure to confirm that you are submitting your application form(s) and other supporting materials to the appropriate office(s) for the residency program(s) for which you are applying.
